Was anyone not a fan of American Football before hearing the rookie, but now you are? or maybe the story made you more interested than you were before?
although we don't have a lot of your kind of football here (the dutch kind being a dumb sport called soccer in america) I always had some interest in it, but the rookie helped me understand the game a lot more and I appreciated the sport a lot more after that. I even watched the super bowl. Maybe not a big deal in the USA but here in the Netherlands that is in the middle of the night and only on some obscure channel.

I've been playing or watching Football my entire life. Really love the game. I like all sports but Football is the best. Go Texans!!! Scott did a great job of getting the feel of the action during the games.

G'day. After reading the Rookie I am keen to check out more of this fascinating sport... but not much chance of that Down Under, where TV coverage is NIL.

I watched some football, but never considered myself a fan. I think having that inital background really heightened the enjoyment factor for me. Understanding what it meant for the receiver to run a post, and the strong safety cutting off a route made a difference for me... Favorite stop-time line from Quentin? "Ran the b!tch right the f*ck over!"

i used to follow the COWBOYS!!
then the asshole fired landry
now i don't even know who's in the playoffs
GO SPURS GO!!

*sings* I went down to the local arena, went to see the manager man. He came out of his office said, "son, can I help you?" I looked at him and said, "Yes, you can." I wanna drive the zamboni. I wanna drive the zamboni. Yes I do. Wild are in the playoffs! My tickets should arrive today. Hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey. The blessed game of hockey. Or, as the old school boys sing it .. "The good ole hockey game, it's the best game you can name. And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game. 3rd period, last game of the playoffs!" Tastes Like Chicken
I am a massive football fan, playing and watching, that is real football though (what you would call soccer). Now I had never watched any american football before hearing the rookie. It got me hooked, now I know how the game works I will watch it if it is ever on. It has even got me to lose spectacularly on a few games of madden. I wish that american football was played in a more 3D way like in the book, but we can't have anything now can we? Love the book, love the game.

I was not a football fan before, and I am Only interested in Rookie type Alien football now. Something about the inter-species thing really got me interested. I guess it's true, I have a weakness for the strange and unusual type of gaming going on there, Regular football can NEVER measure up to that.

Haven't cared for American football in many years (despite a passing interest in NCAA), but the Rookie damn near snared me. Even though I still think Aussie rules is unbelievably more entertaining to watch, I find myself pausing on a close NFL game while flipping channels. Bring on The Starter.
Full disclosure: my sport now and forever is baseball. Go 'stros.
I waited a long time before listening to The Rookie and while I loved the story I still can't help thinking 'buncha pussies' whenever I hear talk about football players.......now rugby, that's a sport played by real men who don't need a ton of protection to run around a piece of grass with a ball.
UP MUNSTER!
On December 19th, 2007 (12:17 GMT) Brad P. from NJ says:
I usually call American Football "Sissy Rugby". The play's too frakkin' slow and there's not enough challenge for me to keep watching it. The Rookie was like watching the game at highlight speed... with an interesting backstory...
I still won't watch American Football. Maybe we can get Siggie in there as a commentator, then I'd possibly watch Monday Night Football.

I'm a Denver Broncos fan.....always have been...I was raised that way. Gotta stay true to my roots!
But, it would freakin' awesome to see them take on the Krakens....I'm sure they'd lose miserably! hehehehe.....

I'm a Broncos fan, too. My whole family (including the dog) is in some manner of blue and orange gear on any given game day. With or without the injuries we've suffered so far this year, my beloved Broncos couldn't even make a dent on the Sky Demolition, much less the Krakens. Although Sam Adams (6'3" - 350#) looks like he could probably flatten a good sized Sklorno by just falling on them.
Good thing the two teams are in different leagues - Broncos have a way to go to even make Tier 3 of the GFL... Until that changes, I feel like I can wear Krakens gear with a clear conscience.

I am a diehard Broncos fan. Everyone in my family is. I have been known to dye my hair orange and blue from time to time. I have a friend that actually dyed her horse.
I actually didnt want to listen to The Rookie because of the fact that I did not care for football very much. After getting hooked on Earthcrack, Ancestor, and Infected I decided to give it a try and listen to a couple of episodes. I was hooked before the first one was done! The Rookie gave me a better understanding of the game. A kick ass story to say the least. Now I am liking football more and more and while I really dont have a favorite team, and I may get some flak for this, I would have to say that I would rally for the Indianapolis Colts since I am from Indiana. Yes that is right. I said the Indianapolis Colts even though Manning just threw more interceptions in one game than he has in his career.
Nocturnal kicks ass so far! Keep up the good work Scott!
I do enjoy the band "American Football", but no, the Rookie didn't necessarily make me like the sport any more or less than I currently don't. But it DID make me realize that it would be super awesome if there were aliens in American football, but until then, I'll stick to cartoons...
Living in Northern Ireland I have to sit up until like 5am to watch (American) Football which I now do at least once a week thanks to The Rookie and Scott
I'm not really a fan but I do sometimes watch a game now, and that never happened before. I guess living in Sweden explains some of lack of football-fandom.
Yes indeed. While I didn't become a rabid fan (not that anyone in that group is missing me at the moment), THE ROOKIE taught me to appreciate the kind of skill and intelligence (and enabled me to use that word in this context!) that goes into the average football play. I even wound up writing about it (see "Scott Sigler, a Strauss Waltz, and Super Bowl XLI" at http://brotherosric.com).
I played football all through JH and HS. I was Varsity and lettered as a Sophomore (barely) and I've literally played every position at least for one play/down.
Scott, your understanding of the players' perspective is great! I actually found myself cheering in the car and getting a high heart rate at the anticipation on the scrimmage line. Great stuff!
Readers and Listeners, THIS is the quintessential work/drama about how it "feels" to play the game. Watching just isn't he same. You know you're a lover of the game when you can't watch it because the stupid camera on TV always follows the ball. A QB sees EVERYTHING... at least that is... until he's knocked unconscious or killed.

I wont go so far as to say I am a foot ball fan, yet. But I do find my self watching the CFL hight lights when they are on TV. Of coarse the CLF is equivolent to fourth tier foot ball so it don't count.
Foot ball has become more interesting now that I imagin aliens on the field ever time I see a game.

I put myself in this camp. I dismissed the NFL completely and now I find myself drawn to watch it from time to time. I still don't have a *team* or anything, but I do watch it from time to time. Actually, I think I am more attracted to AFL as it is a bit faster paced... but American Football is..... well... Football, so yes.
Despite my own father's best efforts, I never developed much interest in the sport myself. That's why I resisted The Rookie for as long as I did. But it hooked me but good, and took only a couple episodes. Now I find myself willing to sit down and watch a game from time to time, and thanks to the bonus episodes, I actually understand a lot of what's going on.
Same thing here, I came from a family of Football fans, except for me, I could never get into it. When I first heard Scott was doing a football story, I was thinking about sitting that one out. Of course the shakes started, and I needed my fix, so I listened. Greatest football story ever told. Tell the truth, it reminds me of an old nintendo game, Mutant League Football, which was the only Sports video game I ever played (except Mutant League Hockey).
Hey Scott, Would you ever consider a hockey league in your universe? I'd love to see the Ki wearing skates...

I would have to agree with you guys as well. Back in the day I would catch a game here and there, then life bit me in the ass. Hell after I listen to the Rookie, I bought Madden for the PSP and played an entire season. I haven't touched it since though.
I also find myself when eating out with the wife or just going though the channels on stopping and catching the scores or a bit of a game.
