not play that music backwards because there are subliminal messages in them. they are evil.

Nooo just kidding, LMAO

[1st Dutch junkie] All that matters is getting my fix.

The question's too big!

JP's picture
My wife says I'm cursed with music. I listen to almost everything and usually work various lyrics into conversations--pathetic, I know--for my own amusement. (I also do this with movie lines.) For several years now, I've been listening (and buying) much more independent music than ever before. I'm still listening to the larger market stuff too, but less often. I have music in my head almost all the time (unlike Mumo, who hears voices--most often the toaster or the larger rock outside in the yard). The list of what I'm listening to is just too long...

i guess

Pjotr NL's picture

I am gonna have to watch your post and see if I can find any lyrics inside them, or movie lines. Let's see if I can find some of them.

[1st Dutch junkie] All that matters is getting my fix.

They come and go in waves

JP's picture
but don't stop believin'. You'll catch them if you're looking.

I will tell you

Shadygirl's picture
I will tell you, they are there. I think he has referenced movies mostly in his posts but there is probably some music too.

A cowgirl is a woman with guts and a horse.

Understatement

Shadygirl's picture
To say that JP sometimes works movie lines and lyrics into his conversation is an understatement. If he could get all of the music and movie trivia out of his head, maybe the rest of his memory would be better.

A cowgirl is a woman with guts and a horse.

True. So true.

JP's picture
Even though people who work for me insist I never forget anything. They're mistaken. I'm not a linear person at all, nor a linear thinker. Fortunately what happens is I end up coming back to things at the right time. (Luck?) I'm also blessed (or cursed?) with the ability to recognize voices, accents, etc. For me, it's all about recognizing patterns, although most folks seem to think it's something more detailed and empirical. Oh well.

Like Shadygirl says, if I could flush all the useless--amusing, but useless--poop out of my head, I could actually remember important things. (Yes Nate, I said "poop." Get over it.)

- Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant! (May faulty logic undermine your entire philosophy!)

Recognizing patterns....

Gmork's picture

You sound like a kindred soul to Jonathan in Bill DeSmedt's podiobook, "Singularity"!

That's funny!

JP's picture
I about drove off the road when I hit that part of the book!!! A little bit creepy too. But what he describes with Knox isn't quite the same. I hear patters more than see them, although I do see behavioral patterns in people too--individuals and groups of people. But Knox--he's some sort of mutant pattern freak. I guess I didn't have access to the magic mushrooms.

- Verveces tui similes pro ientaculo mihi appositi sunt. (I have jerks like you for breakfast.)

Boy does her ever hear patterns.

Shadygirl's picture
It always fascinates me the things that he will pick up and recognize. Music, voices and language mostly, but it really is amazing. I can not even begin to explain it. That part in Singularity made me laugh too. It really did sound like JP.

A cowgirl is a woman with guts and a horse.

Shucks.

JP's picture
Now you're making me blush! Hey, can I walk you home from school and carry your books? (Wink, wink.)

- Verveces tui similes pro ientaculo mihi appositi sunt. (I have jerks like you for breakfast.)

Anytime big boy.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Indie juice!!

Killdozer's picture

Listening to Vampire Weekend (believe it or not, they're not metal) and The Panderers alot right now. I drive alot for my job, so I typically listen to audio books and podcasts as I find they engage my mind and pass the time better than music. I usually listen to music when I'm doing yard work, house work or play disc golf, and then it's indie rock (Rogue Wave, Eels, Band of Horses) , Trance (but only the good stuff: Aphex Twin, Chemical Bros., etc...) or classic jazz...I hate mainstream radio music.

Serious?

I'm actually a huge Blues fan: some old and new. John Lee Hooker, Kenny Neal, Billy Branch, Corey Harris, Chris Thomas King, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, etc. Love 'em!
